The Delhi Services Bill will be tabled in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. The contentious measure seeks to amend an ordinance that gave the Centre power over Delhi’s bureaucrats, thus overturning a Supreme Court verdict that favoured the elected government’s authority in transfers and appointments.
Home Minister Amit Shah will propose the measure, while his deputy Nityanand Rai will explain why the “immediate legislation” through the ordinance is necessary.
The AAP, led by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and other opposition parties, including the Congress, have been outspoken in their opposition to the legislation.Â
