Suryakumar Yadav discussed his averages in the 50-over format as the ODI World Cup approaches.
Suryakumar Yadav scored 83 off 44 balls after both India openers were out early to lead the visitors to a seven-wicket victory against the West Indies in the third Twenty20 encounter on Tuesday.
India responded with 164/3 at Providence Stadium, needing 160 to win. Suryakumar Yadav was chosen man of the match as a result of his knock.
Yadav remarked about his knock in the post-match news conference, saying, “I did nothing different.” I simply went out there and asserted myself, and everything fell into place as I batted.”
When asked if he had missed out on a possible third hundred, Yadav swiftly corrected himself, saying, “First and foremost, I would like to inform you that it would have been my fourth hundred.” (laughs).
“But seriously, I never consider milestones.” I play according to the demands of my team, whether I am on 47 or 98. To attain the milestone, I struck sixes or fours. “I do whatever my team requires,” he stated.
With the ODI World Cup approaching, Yadav discussed his averages in the 50-over format. He failed to create an impression in the ODI series against the Windies, scoring 19, 24, and 35 in three matches.
His ODI stats are quite pedestrian when compared to his T20 record, and the right-hander did not mince words about it. He has played 26 One-Day Internationals and scored 511 runs at an average of 24.33.
Suryakumar played 10 One-Day Internationals in 2023, scoring 14 runs on average.
In response, he stated, “We’ve played a lot of T20Is, so it’s become a habit.” We often play T20, and all we need to do is express ourselves. But we don’t play many one-dayers, and the format is difficult. This is due to the fact that you must bat according to the scenario. For example, if wickets fall early, you must spend time in the middle (play like Test cricket), then run a ball in the middle, and then approach it like a T20 game.”
“Now, whatever the team management has advised me to follow and try to apply in ODI cricket, to take my time and then play my game,” he explained.
“My ODI numbers are very low, and I have no shame in admitting it.” It is critical to be truthful. Rohit and Rahul have advised me that this is a format you haven’t played much of and that you should consider it. “We want you to play 45 to 50 balls (if you’re batting in the last 15 to 18 overs), and you should play accordingly,” he said.

“Now it’s up to me to turn this responsibility into an opportunity and contribute to the success of the team,” he continued.
Surya also lauded young Tilak Varma, who was 49 not out and batting at the time the winning runs were scored, saying, “All credit to him; he is a star.” He is intellectually strong and focused.”
After winning the first T20 by four runs, the West Indies escaped a late scare to beat India by two wickets with seven balls remaining in the second T20.
