Two houses were set on fire in Manipur’s Imphal West district on Wednesday night, according to the PTI, quoting police.
Around 10 p.m., the incident occurred in New Keithelmanbi in the Patsoi police station neighborhood.
According to authorities, unidentified miscreants shot several rounds of ammunition before fleeing the scene. The blaze was brought under control by security agents and firefighters, according to authorities.
According to PTI, the police further stated that a mob of Meitei women gathered in the vicinity following the incident but were prevented from going by security forces.
According to the police, additional security has been dispatched and the situation is under control.
Clashes erupted in Manipur on May 3 in Churachandpur town when tribal groups called for protests against a proposed change to the state’s reservation matrix that would grant the Meitei people scheduled tribe (ST) status.
The violence swiftly expanded across the state, which has major ethnic fault lines. Since then, at least 175 people have perished and nearly 50,000 have been displaced throughout the state. Hundreds of houses have been destroyed, businesses have been destroyed, studies have been disrupted, places of worship have been reduced to ashes, and the state has been without internet for months.
According to state government officials, over 4,500 firearms and approximately 650,000 rounds of ammunition have gone missing. According to police officials, the Manipur police and security personnel have recovered 1,500 guns and around 15,000 rounds of ammunition.

Kuki tribes in Manipur have accused the state police of prejudice and have urged the Union government to keep the Assam Rifles in the state to maintain peace. Assam Rifles reports to the Union government, while Manipur Police reports to Meitei Chief Minister Biren Singh.
