Day 6 of Shardiya Navratri: Who is Maa Katyayani?
Maa Katyayani is one of Goddess Durga’s most violent manifestations. She is known as Mahishasurmardini because she slew the demon king Mahishasura. She is shown riding a lion while carrying a sword and a lotus flower in her left hand and the Abhaya and Varada mudras in her right. Maa Katyayani is credited as being the destroyer of evil. According to the Vamana Purana, the gods were so enraged by the demon Mahishasura’s transgressions that they banded together to create Maa Katyayani out of their combined might. They manifested their rage as energy rays that crystallized in Katyayana Rishi’s hermitage and were subsequently given the perfect shape by him. As a result, Maa Durga’s incarnation is also known as Katyayani, or Katyayana’s daughter.

The sixth day of Navratri occurs on Friday, October 20 this year. The Brahma Muhurta on this day begins at 04:44 AM and concludes at 05:34 AM, according to Drik Panchang. The Abhijit Muhurta begins at 11:43 AM and ends at 12:28 PM, while the Vijaya Muhurta begins at 01:59 PM and ends at 02:45 PM.
Day 6 of Navratri Puja Vidhi and Samagri:
On the sixth day of Navratri, devotees are urged to wake up early, take a bath, and put on fresh garments. Clean the puja space and place fresh flowers in front of Maa Katyayani’s idol. Devotees should also hold lotus flowers in their palms while reciting mantras and praying, and present honey to the goddess as prasad and bhog to solicit her blessings.
