India donated humanitarian goods to the Gaza Strip on Sunday, amid the conflict between Hamas and Israel. Nearly 6.5 tonnes of medical supplies and 32 tonnes of disaster relief goods have been delivered to Palestine, where they will arrive via Egypt.
External Affairs Ministry spokeswoman Arindam Bagchi tweeted on X (previously Twitter), “An IAF C-17 flight bringing nearly 6.5 tonnes of medical aid and 32 tonnes of disaster relief supplies for the people of Palestine departs for El-Arish airport in Egypt.”
The supplies will be sent to Palestine via Egypt’s Rafah border crossing with Gaza.
According to Bagchi, the humanitarian assistance includes “essential life-saving medicines, surgical items, tents, sanitary utilities, sleeping bags, tarpaulins, water purification tablets, and other necessary items.”
The help from India comes three days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. During their chat on Thursday, Prime Minister Modi stated that India will continue to deliver humanitarian relief to the Palestinians. He also expressed his sympathies for the loss of civilian life in the Gaza Strip as a result of a hospital attack.
“We expressed our deep concern about the region’s ongoing terrorism, violence, and deteriorating security situation.” Following his conversation with Abbas, Prime Minister Modi restated India’s long-held moral position on the Israel-Palestine issue.
The horrific conflict between Israel and Hamas, which began on October 7 in response to a surprise and unprecedented strike by the Palestinian terrorist group, has taken over 5,000 lives on both sides and produced a catastrophic humanitarian catastrophe in the Middle East. The devastating Hamas attack, in which the militants infiltrated over land into southern Israeli communities and gunned down citizens on streets and in their houses, has drawn harsh criticism from around the world and international leaders. Israel’s counteroffensive, dubbed “Operation Iron Swords,” intended to remove Hamas operator bases in Gaza, has wreaked havoc on the territory, with residents fleeing their homes, basic utilities unavailable, and hospitals barely operating.
A recent explosion at a Gaza hospital, which cost hundreds of lives, drew harsh criticism from international leaders. While Hamas alleged that Israeli rocket strikes were to blame for the catastrophe, Israel has denied this.

Meanwhile, Israel is preparing a concerted ground attack in Gaza to take on Hamas, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu previously declaring that his country will “crush and destroy” Hamas.
