Chandra Mohan, a popular Telugu cinema actor who appeared in 932 films, including 150 as the main protagonist, died of a short illness at Apollo Hospitals in Hyderabad on Saturday morning, according to his family members.
He was 80. His wife, Jalandhara, and two daughters survive him.
“He had been suffering for quite some time due to age-related issues, and he passed away at around 9:45 am at Apollo Hospitals,” a family member said, adding that his final rites will be done in Hyderabad on Monday.

Chandra Mohan, born Mallampalli Chandrasekhar Rao, was also a relative of famous filmmaker and Dada Sahab Phalke award recipient K Vishwanath, who died in February of this year. He is also connected to the late S P Balasubrahmanyam, a prominent playback singer.
Chandra Mohan, who was born on May 23, 1943, in Pamidimukkala village in Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district, was introduced to the Telugu cinema industry in 1966 with the film “Rangula Ratnam,” for which he received the state government’s Nandi award for best actor.
In 1968, he acted in Sukha Duhkalu as Vanisri’s loving brother, for which he garnered accolades.
He has appeared in various films since then, including Padaharella Vayasu, Siri Siri Muvva, Seethaamalakshmi, Radha Kalyanam, Shankarabharanam, and Chandamama Raave.
He received two Filmfare awards as well as various state government honors for outstanding actor and character artist.
