What Report Says about iPhone sales slide?

In China, Apple’s iPhone sales slide by 24% whereas China’s Huawei saw its sales jump by 64%, in the first six weeks of 2024, reported Counterpoint. The report further says, “The US technology giant is facing fierce competition in the country from local rivals.”

And the interesting part of it is, “Apple and Huawei did not immediately respond to this requests.” The analyst firm said in a note Tuesday that iPhone sales fell 24% during the period, as Apple faced stiff competition from local smartphone manufacturers such as Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi. China, which is one of the biggest markets of Apple, also saw overall smartphone sales shrink by 7%.

Apple’s iPhone Sales Plunge 24% in China to Start Year

The reason behind Huawei struggled for years is ‘US sanctions but its sales surged after releasing its Mate 60 series of 5G smartphones in August’. It came as a major surprise as the Chinese company was cutting off from key chips and technology required for 5G mobile internet.

Honor, was the only other top-five brand to see sales increase in China during the period, whereas sales of Vivo, Xiaomi and Oppo also fell in the first six weeks of the year.

Counterpoint also report that, “Apple’s share of the Chinese smartphone market dropped to 15.7% from 19% last year, putting it in fourth place whereas, Huawei rose to second place as its market share grew to 16.5% from 9.4% a year earlier.” The interesting part of this story is about Vivo sales “Vivo remained China’s top-selling phone company, despite of its sales falling by 15% over the last year “
