The Uttar Pradesh Police arrived in Gujarat on Tuesday to extradite mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed to Prayagraj in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case. Umesh, a critical witness in the 2005 assassination of then-Bahujan Samaj Party politician Raju Pal, was shot dead outside his Prayagraj residence in February of this year. A lawsuit was filed against his wife Shaista Parveen, Ahmad, his brother Ashraf, his two kids, aides Guddu Muslim and Ghulam, and nine others based on a complaint filed by his wife Jaya Pal.
But, Atiq Ahmed stated that it was unethical and that they intended to kill him.
Atiq Ahmed was transferred to Prayagraj by vehicle from Sabarmati Prison earlier this month for a trial in an abduction case.
In the 2006 Umesh Pal abduction case, an MP/MLA court found him and 2 others guilty and convicted them to life in prison.
Despite the fact that more than 100 charges had been filed against the 60-year-old former Samajwadi Party MP, this was his first conviction.
In 2006, Atiq Ahmad and his associates kidnapped Umesh Pal and compelled him to testify in court in their favor. Umesh Pal made a complaint in this respect.
After being accused of arranging the kidnapping and assault of real estate businessman Mohit Jaiswal when imprisoned, the Supreme Court ordered Ahmed’s transfer to a high-security jail in Gujarat in 2019.
Atiq Ahmed has now been charged with over a hundred criminal crimes. Among the most shocking killings in which Ahmed is accused is that of Raju Pal, a BSP Legislator who’s been shot dead in Prayagraj in 2005.
Earlier in the last week, the Delhi Police Special Cell detained three individuals for allegedly providing sanctuary to a guy sought in the Umesh Pal killing in Uttar Pradesh.
They are suspected of assisting Asad, the son of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad, and hiding him in the national capital following the February 24 murder of Umesh Pal.
