In the election held by the newly-elected National Assembly, Shehbaz secured 201 votes and becomes Pakistan new PM. This was out of three hundred thirty-six house members, while his opponent, Omar Ayub Khan, got only 92 votes. Omar Ayub Khan comes from the jailed Pakistan’s former prime minister, Imran Khan’s political party.
Soon after, 72-year-old Shehbaz Sharif was elected Pakistan’s 24th prime minister; he delivered a speech at the National Assembly of Islamabad, Pakistan.

In the speech, Shehbaz Sharif pledged to revive the country’s economy and wipe out terrorism. He added that Pakistan would not become a part of any “great game” and promised to improve ties with all leading countries. He further said this includes its neighbors to maintain good relations with the government on the principles of equality.
The new PM spoke on the Kashmir and Palestine issue, “Let’s all come together.” He added the National Assembly should pass a resolution for the freedom of Kashmiris and Palestinians.
What Pakistan New PM said on economic issue?
Shehbaz said a weak economy is the most significant primary problem for the country. He said he started his government when the country faced budget loans of more than one trillion rupees. There was no way to pay the salaries of armed forces and civil servants. Further, restoring the country’s economy was the biggest challenge.
The newly elected Pakistan Prime Minister further highlights the debt and the billions of rupees of interest the country must pay. He said that his government will work hard and set a goal to become a member of G20 by 2030. He promised to put the country on the development path, and his government will try to bring the country out of the current economic crisis.
Shehbaz said, “I did not want to set any deadline, but our government took many steps and will show a positive result after a year.” He also announced the elimination of terrorism from the country by adopting a National Action Plan that deals with the extremism in the country.
