Phone Charger Catch Fire in Meerut

In Modi Puram’s Janata Colony in Meerut, there was an explosion in a rented house where a laborer was living. The explosion happened due to a short circuit in a mobile phone, which also caused a fire in the room. Four children present in the room were severely injured. The couple who rushed to save the children also got injured. People informed the police and the fire was brought under control. Initially, everyone was taken to a private hospital, and later transferred to a government medical facility. Unfortunately, during treatment, the mother, along with all four children, passed away. The father’s condition remains critical as he is still undergoing medical treatment.

Within 24 hours, all four children succumbed to their injuries. The seriously injured children were admitted to AIIMS Hospital in Delhi, where they also passed away, while the father remains in critical condition and hospitalized.

Johnny, aged 41, a resident of Sikhera in Muzaffarnagar district, works as a laborer. His wife Babita, aged 37, along with their four children Sarika (10), Niharika (8), Golu (6), and Kallu (5), were living in a rented house in Modi Puram’s Janata Colony.

It was reported that on Saturday evening, the children were playing in the room. Wires were scattered on the bed, and the children were charging a mobile phone from the electrical board. A short circuit occurred while charging the phone, causing a fire in the wires and subsequently on the bed.

The children, engulfed in flames, started screaming. Upon hearing the explosions and the children’s cries, Johnny and Babita rushed from the kitchen to the room. Both of them managed to get the children out of the room despite being severely burnt themselves. Upon hearing the screams from Johnny’s house, neighbors rushed to help.

Station in-charge Manish Kumar stated that during treatment, besides Sarika and Kallu, the mother also succumbed to her injuries. Initially, the family resisted a post-mortem, but now it’s being conducted. Johnny is currently undergoing medical treatment, and his condition remains critical.

SP Ayush Vikram Singh says, “Victims were rushed to LLRM Medical Hospital, where two of the children succumbed around 9.30pm.

He further mentions that the fire was caused by a short circuit, which caused severe burns to the children and the couple. “Unfortunately, all four children lost their lives.” The bodies of the deceased children are undergoing post-mortem. DM Deepak Meena confirmed that a report of the entire incident has been requested from the City Magistrate. A report has been sent to the government for financial assistance.
