New Delhi [India] In the midst of the continuing controversy surrounding the film ‘The Kerala Story,’ Congress MP Shashi Tharoor stated that he is not seeking a ban on the film, but rather that it is a distortion of the state’s reality. This follows his statement that the film is “your” Kerala tale, but not “our” Kerala story. Let me emphasize that I am not pushing for the film to be banned. Freedom of expression does not lose its value just because it might be abused. However, Keralites have every right to state unequivocally that this is a misunderstanding of our reality, Tharoor tweeted.Â

The film’s trailer, ‘The Kerala Story,’ has sparked debate since the statistics are overstated. The film, produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and directed by Sudipto Sen is planned to open in theatres on May 5, 2023. The key actors in ‘The Kerala Story’ are Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, and Sonia Balani. The trailer for Sen’s film ‘The Kerala Story’ sparked outrage since it claimed that 32,000 females from the state went missing and ultimately joined the terrorist organization ISIS.

He further said that the film is an attempt to carry out Sangh Parivar’s mission and create a societal rift by throwing suspicion on minority groups.
This is not about freedom of expression, but about implementing the Sangh Parivar aim of creating a schism in society by throwing doubt on minority groups, he added.
