Delhi Air Pollution: Supreme Court has requested a report from the CAQM on air pollution mitigation measures in Delhi-NCR

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court demanded a report from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on the steps being taken to reduce air pollution in the Delhi region and its surrounding areas.

According to PTI, a bench comprised of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sudhanshu Dhulia confirmed senior lawyer Aparajita Singh’s claims. Singh is acting as an amicus curiae for the Supreme Court in pollution-related cases. She raised worries about air pollution during the winter months, as well as agricultural residue burning.

The bench noted that the amicus curiae has expressed serious concerns about air pollution as winter approaches, as well as agricultural residue burning. According to PTI, the amicus curiae has also said that these concerns are now under the jurisdiction of the CAQM.

“We call upon the CAQM to deliver urgently a report as to the measures being taken for control of air pollution within and outside the capital,” the Supreme Court stated in a statement.

The next hearing in this case is set for October 31.
