Following in the footsteps of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video is now focusing on introducing advertisements to the site. Earlier this year, the OTT behemoth revealed ambitions to include’significantly less advertisements’ in its digital content, which includes movies and TV episodes. Ads will be introduced to the current price options; however, an ad-free version will be available for anyone wanting to pay a little more. Although the exact date of the ad release was not first revealed, it has now been confirmed.
The business informed Amazon Prime subscribers in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, and other territories of the insertion of adverts in a recent email. Users will begin seeing advertising in the midst of their content on January 29, according to the email. ‘Limited advertisements- will allow us to continue investing in outstanding content and increase that commitment over time,’ states the email from Amazon Prime Video to consumers, as published by The Verge.

“We intend to have significantly fewer advertisements than linear TV and other streaming TV providers.” “No action is required from you, and the current price of your Prime membership remains unchanged,” Amazon Prime added. Customers who wish to retain their ad-free streaming experience can do so by paying an extra $2.99 (about Rs 248.8) each month. The email mentions that for individuals who want an ad-free experience on Prime Video, there is a link in the email where subscribers may join up.
Meanwhile, the firm guarantees its subscribers that, despite the addition of restricted adverts on Prime Video, the present price of the Prime membership will not change. Notably, Amazon is presently introducing adverts in the United Kingdom, the United States, and other foreign markets. However, the new adjustments are anticipated to be implemented globally, including in India. The fundamental Prime advantages remain intact. In India, Amazon Prime now costs Rs 299 per month or Rs 1499 per year. Amazon Prime Lite, which costs Rs 799 in India, is also an economical yearly package.
Aside from the basic Amazon Prime Video options, the firm also provides Freevee, a free, ad-supported streaming service. According to the email, “live event content such as sports, and content offered through Amazon Freevee will continue to include advertising.” Surprisingly, Amazon’s choice to include commercials on its OTT channel, Prime Video, corresponds with a trend seen in other streaming platforms. Competing platforms are boosting membership rates across their services and adding advertisements into their more affordable monthly plans. Amazon, on the other hand, is maintaining the monthly charge for Amazon Prime the same. Instead, beginning January 29, the firm will charge a fee for consumers who want an ad-free experience.
