    Official word awaited

Crucially, neither the Maharashtra government nor the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a statement confirming the identity of any passenger or even the occurrence of such a crash. Police officials contacted by media outlets said details were being verified and urged caution against spreading unconfirmed information.

Senior leaders from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have also not released any official communication on the matter.

    Background

Ajit Pawar, 66, is a senior leader of the NCP and currently serves as Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister. He is the nephew of veteran politician Sharad Pawar and cousin of Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule.

In 2023, Pawar led a split in the NCP and later joined the NDA government in Maharashtra. Recently, there had been political buzz around possible coordination between the two NCP factions in local body elections.

    Why verification matters

False or premature reports about deaths—especially involving public figures—can cause panic and deep distress. Media ethics and standard journalistic practice require confirmation from official sources such as the DGCA, police, or the state government before publishing such claims as fact.

    The bottom line

At this stage, the reports remain unverified. Readers are advised to rely only on confirmed updates from official channels. This story will be updated once authorities release a formal statement.
