Unverified reports circulating on social media and some websites on Tuesday morning claimed that Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar died in a plane crash near Baramati. As of publication, there is no official confirmation from the state government, police, or aviation authorities.
What the reports say
According to the claims doing the rounds, a small aircraft flying from Mumbai attempted to land near Baramati and crashed close to the airport area. The reports allege that five people, including the pilots and security personnel, were on board and that all died in the incident.
Visuals shared online show smoke and fire at an accident site and emergency vehicles in the area. However, the origin and authenticity of these visuals have not been independently verified.

Ajit Pawar, 66, is a senior leader of the NCP and currently serves as Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister. He is the nephew of veteran politician Sharad Pawar and cousin of Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule.
In 2023, Pawar led a split in the NCP and later joined the NDA government in Maharashtra. Recently, there had been political buzz around possible coordination between the two NCP factions in local body elections.
