Ahmedabad:
Aman Khan’s domestic season took a tough turn on Monday, December 29, as the Puducherry captain found himself on the wrong side of the record books during a Vijay Hazare Trophy clash against Jharkhand. The all-rounder conceded 123 runs in his 10 overs, registering the most expensive bowling spell in the history of List A cricket.
A Day to Forget for Puducherry Captain
Leading Puducherry in the tournament, Aman Khan endured a punishing day as Jharkhand’s batters went after him relentlessly. Despite the onslaught, he was one of only three Puducherry bowlers to complete their full quota of overs.
Jharkhand capitalised fully, piling up 368 for 7 in their 50 overs. Wicketkeeper-batter Kumar Kushagra and all-rounder Anukul Roy were particularly severe, consistently finding gaps and clearing the ropes during Aman’s spell.
Record Broken Within Days
Interestingly, the unwanted record had been set just days earlier in the same competition. Arunachal Pradesh’s Mibom Mosu had conceded 116 runs in nine overs against Bihar, a match that also saw Vaibhav Suryavanshi become the youngest centurion in men’s List A cricket. Bihar, in that game, smashed a world-record 574 runs in 50 overs.
That record, however, didn’t last long. Aman Khan’s spell against Jharkhand surpassed it within five days, underlining how brutal the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy has been for bowlers.
Match Result at a Glance
Chasing a steep target, Puducherry’s batting never really got going. The side was bowled out for 235 in 42 overs, handing Jharkhand a 133-run victory.
IPL Journey So Far
Despite this setback, Aman Khan is no newcomer to top-level cricket. The 29-year-old has featured in 12 IPL matches, representing Kolkata Knight Riders in 2022 and Delhi Capitals in 2023. Across those appearances, he scored 115 runs at a strike rate of 110.57, though he is yet to make an impact with the ball in the league.
At the IPL 2026 auction, the all-rounder was picked up by Chennai Super Kings for ₹40 lakh, giving him a fresh opportunity with the five-time champions in the Indian Premier League.
Looking Ahead
For Aman Khan, the focus now will be on moving past a forgettable outing and finishing the domestic season strongly. With a new chapter set to begin at CSK next year, consistency and confidence will be key as he looks to re-establish himself ahead of IPL 2026.
