A new CCTV video allegedly linked to Nashik-based self-styled astrologer Ashok Kharat has surfaced online, triggering fresh outrage and adding to the ongoing investigation into multiple serious allegations against him. The clip, now widely circulating on social media, is being examined by police as part of a broader probe into suspected exploitation carried out under the guise of “treatment”.

What the new video shows
According to initial reports, the footage appears to show Kharat inside his office interacting with a minor during what he claims to be a form of therapy. In the clip, he is seen instructing the child to lift her T-shirt while using electrical tools around her abdomen. The incident reportedly took place in the presence of the child’s mother.
Authorities have not publicly verified all aspects of the viral clip yet, but officials confirmed that the video has been taken into evidence and is being closely analysed.
Allegations pile up against Kharat
Kharat, who describes himself as an astrologer and spiritual healer, is already facing multiple serious charges, including allegations of sexual assault, harassment, and illegal possession of weapons. The latest video has intensified scrutiny, with fresh complaints reportedly being considered under Maharashtra’s anti-superstition law.
Investigators are now examining whether similar incidents occurred earlier and if more victims could come forward.
SIT-led investigation underway
The case is currently being handled by a Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Tejashwi Satpute. Police sources indicate that several digital records, including CCTV footage from Kharat’s office, are under forensic review.
Officials have also urged the public not to circulate unverified clips, especially those involving minors, as it could hamper the investigation and violate legal protections.
Focus on superstition and exploitation
The case has once again brought attention to the misuse of faith-based practices and “miracle treatments” in parts of Maharashtra. Activists have called for stricter enforcement of the Maharashtra Human Sacrifice and Other Inhuman, Unwholesome and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, which aims to curb exploitation in the name of superstition.

What happens next
Police are expected to record more statements and expand the scope of the probe in the coming days. Officials say the investigation will focus on establishing the authenticity of the video, identifying all individuals involved, and determining whether additional charges need to be filed.
For now, the case remains under active investigation, with more details likely to emerge soon.
