BENGALURU: The legal dispute between businessman AVR Reddy and a prominent Kannada film actress has taken a fresh turn after alleged private MMS clips, photographs and financial documents began circulating widely on social media. The leaks have added a new layer of complexity to a case that has been under investigation since late 2025 and has drawn intense attention within the Sandalwood film industry.
What’s gone viral and why it matters
In recent days, a set of intimate visuals—purportedly showing Reddy and the actress together—surfaced online, alongside screenshots of what are claimed to be bank transfers, invoices and purchase details. Those sharing the material suggest it supports Reddy’s version that the relationship was consensual and involved substantial financial support.
According to these documents, gifts and expenses allegedly total close to ₹1 crore. The list doing the rounds includes around ₹15 lakh worth of gold jewellery, nearly ₹10 lakh spent on furniture, high-end gadgets, and multiple flight tickets. Investigators, however, have not yet confirmed the authenticity of any of these records.

Two sharply different versions
At the heart of the case are two conflicting narratives about a relationship said to have begun during a cricket-related event in Sri Lanka in 2021.
The actress has accused Reddy of harassment, stalking and blackmail. In her police complaint, she claimed that after she tried to distance herself, she was threatened, her family was targeted, and her images were allegedly morphed and misused. She has also stated that the pressure from the situation pushed her to attempt suicide.
Reddy, on the other hand, has denied all allegations. He maintains that the relationship was consensual and long-term, describing it as a live-in arrangement. He has accused the actress of financial fraud, claiming she extracted large sums of money and expensive gifts from him, and has said his total spending exceeded ₹3 crore, including the purchase of a luxury car.
Arrest and ongoing probe
Reddy, founder of the AVR Group and a former owner of the Bellary Tuskers cricket franchise, was arrested on November 15, 2025, after landing at Kempegowda International Airport. The arrest followed a lookout notice issued by the Govindaraja Nagar police in Bengaluru.
As of January 2026, the investigation remains active. Police are now examining two key aspects: whether the leaked financial records are genuine, and who is responsible for circulating private images. Officials say the latter could lead to separate charges under the IT Act if illegal sharing is established.

Legal and ethical concerns
Legal experts note that even if the material is relevant to the case, unauthorised circulation of private images is a criminal offence. Authorities have reiterated that evidence must be submitted through proper legal channels, not trial-by-social-media.
Neither Reddy nor the actress has issued an official statement on the latest leaks so far. Sources indicate that both legal teams are likely to reference these developments when the matter comes up in court next.
In line with Supreme Court guidelines and Section 72 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the identity of the complainant has not been disclosed.
