Bihar is wide awake today. The state’s political fate—and the future of two of its biggest leaders, Nitish Kumar and Tejashwi Yadav—will unfold as counting of votes kicked off at 8am. Early trends are expected to show up around 9am, setting the tone for one of the most closely watched state elections in recent years.
Highest Voter Turnout in Bihar’s History
This year’s polls saw a record-breaking 67.13% turnout across the two-phase election held on November 6 and 11. The Election Commission has set up 46 counting centres in 38 districts to handle the massive exercise.
More than 7.45 crore voters have decided the fate of 2,616 candidates contesting across Bihar’s 243 assembly seats.
NDA Eyes Big Win, Mahagathbandhan Claims Momentum
Most exit polls have signaled a strong performance by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), where the JD(U) and BJP are contesting 101 seats each. The alliance also includes HAM, Jitan Ram Manjhi’s JJD, and other smaller partners.
But Tejashwi Yadav isn’t buying the forecasts. Calling exit polls “misleading,” he has said the INDIA bloc will “shock everyone” with a clear majority. The alliance includes RJD, Congress, CPI(ML) Liberation, Left parties, and VIP.
