Mumbai is gearing up for one of its most important civic exercises. Polling for the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation elections will be held on January 15, 2026, with voting across all wards of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation taking place in a single phase. Results are scheduled to be announced the very next day, January 16.
With over one crore voters expected to cast their ballots across 29 municipal corporations in the state, election officials are urging citizens to double-check their voter details well before polling day. Only voters whose names appear on the final electoral roll will be allowed to vote.

Why checking your voter name matters
Long queues and last-minute confusion at polling booths are common during high-stakes elections like the BMC polls. A quick online check can save time and ensure you’re not turned away on voting day. Officials say several voters realise their names are missing only when they reach the booth — something that can easily be avoided.
Three official ways to check your name in the voter list
Voters can confirm their details through these government-authorised platforms:
1. Maharashtra State Election Commission portal
Visit mahasecvoterlist.in and search using your full name or EPIC (voter ID) number. This portal is specifically meant for local body elections.
2. National Voters’ Service Portal (NVSP)
Head to voters.eci.gov.in, click on Search your name in voter list, and enter your EPIC number to view your details instantly.
3. Voter Helpline App
Download the Voter Helpline App from eci.gov.in/voter-helpline-app/. It allows you to check voter details, polling booth location, and other election-related information on your phone.
What documents to carry on polling day
Once your name is confirmed, make sure to carry a valid photo identity proof to the polling booth. Accepted documents include Aadhaar card, PAN card, passport, or other officially approved IDs.
High-stakes election for India’s richest civic body
The 227-member BMC is India’s largest and wealthiest municipal corporation, making this election politically significant. Around 1,700 candidates are contesting this time — 879 women and 821 men — showing a strong female presence in the race.

According to a PTI report, the total number of candidates has dropped by 25.27% compared to the 2017 civic polls, when 2,275 candidates were in the fray. In the previous election, 1,190 men, 1,084 women and one transgender candidate contested. The decline points to tighter candidate selection and shifting political strategies ahead of the 2026 polls.
With voting day just around the corner, officials are advising Mumbai voters to verify their details early, keep their ID ready, and turn up to vote without last-minute stress.
