How did the Himachal Crisis come into the picture?
Congress in Himachal Pradesh faced a crisis after the ruling government lost the seat in the Rajya Sabha. This happened by cross-voting for its MLAs, who are now on the BJP side. The BJP won the seat of Rajya Sabha on Tuesday with his candidate Harsh Mahajan.
After this crisis, Congress MLAs met at Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s house on Thursday because of demands from a section to replace Sukhu as the chief minister.
Six MLAs who voted were disqualified by the speaker, Kuldeep Singh Pathania. The six MLAMLA’S who were involved in the cross-voting were:Â
Sudhir Sharma, Rajinder Rana, Chaitanya Sharma, Davinder K Bhutto, Ravi Thakur and Inder Dutt Lakhanpal.
Later, they were disqualified from the State assembly of 68 members. After the disqualification of MLAs, the strength and majority marks of the state assembly came down.
Jairam Ramesh, Congress General Secretary, said that the BJP is using its money and government power to destabilise the Congress from Himachal Pradesh. But they failed because of the blessing of Himachal people on Congress, he added.
In a public meeting in Dharampur, Mr Sukhu said the MLAs who voted against his party were the “Black Snakes.” He further adds – ‘they were who sold their honour for the money and went against the party to destabilise it.
Of 68 members of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly, Congress have 40 MLAs, BJP has 25 Legislators, and independents hold the other three seats.
