The Indian Embassy in Russia tweeted, “We have learned about the tragic death of an Indian national, Mohammed Asfan”. We are in contact with the family and the Russian authorities. The mission would make efforts to bring his dead remains to India.” However, to this Afsan brother has a questionable response as you can see in the tweet below.

Previously, Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi pleaded for the rescue of Indian youths who had been tricked into serving the Russian army. The Times of India claims that Imran, Afsan’s brother, was with MP Asaduddin Owaisi when he contacted the embassy.

Other Forced Indian Militants in Russian Army

As to a report published in India Today, Mohammed Asfan’s family contacted Hyderabad MP and AIMIM head Asaduddin Owaisi. This was for requesting help in returning the Asfan from Russia. However, when AIMIM approached the Indian Embassy in Moscow, they confirmed Asfan’s death.

The latest death comes just weeks after a 23-year-old Indian guy from Gujarat died in Russia. He was serving as a ‘helper’ for the Russian Army during its ongoing battle with Ukraine.

An apple farmer, an airline caterer, and an unemployed graduate are among the Indian citizens took by Moscow into the Russian army in Ukraine. The relatives of the recruits claim they were duped. They further accuse Indian authorities for not doing enough to bring them back  or take out of the situation.

What Afsan brother informed?

Mohammed Imran, a retailer from Hyderabad, hasn’t heard from his 30-year-old younger brother, Mohammed Asfan, in nearly two months. Asfan had last contacted from the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don to announce he had been sent to the front lines.

Further, Imran told the AFP news agency that “One of the boys who was with him and managed to escape told us my brother had been wounded by a bullet,” .

In the past, India’s Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi stated that some Indian individuals had signed up for “support jobs” with the Russian army. However, they did not specify whether these were combat positions.
