KL Rahul has allegedly been included in India’s 15-man preliminary World Cup team, which will be unveiled today, after gaining permission from the National Cricket Academy. Rahul is recuperating from a hamstring operation at the NCA in Bengaluru and will participate in a last fitness drill before joining the rest of the Indian team in Sri Lanka.
According to PTI, NCA coaches and team management are confident in Rahul’s fitness after monitoring him extensively at the nets and in match simulation.
The Indian World Cup team was supposed to be unveiled on September 4, ahead of the September 5 deadline, however with KL Rahul’s fitness clearance, the announcement has been delayed by a day.
Rahul Dravid is anticipated to recover his number 5 slot for India, while Ishan Kishan might be retained as the second wicketkeeper-batsman, leaving Sanju Samson not in the World Cup roster.
The BCCI’s top national selection committee chose the 15-member squad late Saturday, according to a story in The Indian Express. Ajit Agarkar, chairman of selectors, traveled to Sri Lanka after the India-Pakistan match was called off to meet with Indian captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid.
Apart from Sanju Samson, the two players currently in India’s Asia Cup team who were not chosen in the ODI World Cup roster are allegedly Tilak Varman and Prasidh Krishna. Krishna just recently returned to the Indian team for the Ireland series after recovering from a lengthy injury layoff.
