New York:
India delivered a sharp and unapologetic response to Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), firmly rejecting Islamabad’s repeated references to Jammu and Kashmir and branding Pakistan a “global epicentre of terror.” The remarks came after Pakistan once again raised the Kashmir issue during an open debate at the UN.
India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni, made it clear that Jammu and Kashmir, along with Ladakh, are “integral and inalienable” parts of India and will remain so—leaving no room for ambiguity.

India calls out Pakistan’s ‘obsessive focus’
Responding to Pakistan’s statements, Parvathaneni said Islamabad continues to misuse the UN platform to push a divisive agenda against India.
“Pakistan’s unwarranted reference to Jammu and Kashmir in today’s open debate attests to its obsessive focus on harming India and its people,” he said.
Taking the criticism further, the Indian envoy questioned Pakistan’s credibility as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, stating that a country driven by such an agenda cannot be expected to fulfil its responsibilities at the UN.

India also turned the spotlight inward on Pakistan’s domestic situation, pointing to the continued detention of former Prime Minister Imran Khan as an example of democratic suppression.
Parvathaneni remarked that Pakistan has a “unique way of respecting the will of its people”—by jailing an elected prime minister, banning a major political party, and allowing what he described as military interference in constitutional processes.
Imran Khan has been in jail since August 2023, with his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and family repeatedly alleging political vendetta and erosion of democratic rights.
India defends move on Indus Waters Treaty
The Indian envoy also defended New Delhi’s decision to place the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance, citing Pakistan’s long record of hostility and terror activities.
India, he said, entered the treaty 65 years ago in good faith, but Pakistan repeatedly violated its spirit by waging three wars and orchestrating thousands of terror attacks.
Referring to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, Parvathaneni stressed that Pakistan continues to support cross-border terrorism, leaving India with no choice but to reassess its commitments.
“It is in this backdrop that India has announced the treaty will remain in abeyance until Pakistan credibly and irrevocably ends its support for terrorism,” he said.

Clear message from India at the UN
India’s statement sent a strong message at the UNSC—rejecting Pakistan’s narrative on Kashmir, calling out its terror links, and highlighting democratic backsliding within the country. New Delhi also made it clear that international goodwill cannot coexist with continued support for terrorism.
