Lionel Messi leads Inter Miami in a 3-1 win over Nashville in CCC. Wednesday night, they brought about another round of riveting CONCACAF Champions Cup action, with three more teams set to book their place in the quarterfinals.
Inter Miami was hosted in Nashville, SC, at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In the Concacaf Champions Cup, Lionel Messi set up an early goal. He then scored one before leaving Inter Miami CF’s 5-3 aggregate win over Nashville SC on Wednesday night.
Both teams came into the game tied 2-2 on aggregate after the first leg in Nashville. Still, Luis Suárez scored at the end. This was before former Barcelona star scored one of his own with a cool finish from centre of penalty area. The goal gave Miami a 2-goal aggregate cushion.
In the second half, Messi was on field, but five minutes after the restart, Miami coach Gerardo Martino replaced him with Robert Taylor. It was unclear why Messi, who rested in his team’s 3-2 loss to Montreal in MLS on Sunday, was pulled down particularly so early in the second half.
For Messi, it was a fourth straight game with a goal, bringing his season totals to four assists and five goals in five games for Miami this season.
Why Messi left Inter Miami match?
Messi left Inter Miami’s Concacaf Champions Cup second-leg match because of “muscle overload.” Coach Martino said Messi would undergo imaging to see the extent of the injury.
We did not want to take a risk,” Martino said about Messi after he scored a goal and assisted another to help Inter Miami advance to the quarterfinal of the Champions Cup. We tried to see if Messi could go a little longer, but we preferred him to get out of the match.”
On Friday, Inter Miami has a training session scheduled before travelling to Washington, D.C., for Saturday’s 2 p.m. ET match against D.C. United in Washington.
