SunRisers Hyderabad’s Star Wicketkeeper-Batter Shines in Intra-Squad Match, Eyes Career Revival
Ishan Kishan, who has been absent from India’s playing XI for over a year, made a powerful statement ahead of IPL 2025 by smashing two half-centuries in the same intra-squad match. The SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) star, released by Mumbai Indians (MI) and acquired by SRH for Rs 11.25 crore, showcased his blistering form just days before the tournament kicks off.

Kishan’s Explosive Performance in Practice Match
- First Innings: 64 off 23 balls
- Second Innings: 73 off 30 balls
During the intra-squad match on Saturday, Kishan opened the innings alongside Abhishek Sharma and provided a fiery start in the powerplay. While Abhishek was dismissed after a rapid 28 off just 8 balls, Kishan continued his onslaught, smashing boundaries at will. He reached his fifty in record time before being dismissed in the 8th over by Kamindu Mendis via a caught-and-bowled.
In the second innings, chasing a steep 261-run target, Kishan once again dominated the bowlers. He even took teammate Abhishek Sharma, who was bowling, to the cleaners, proving his adaptability and hunger for runs.
Where Will Kishan Bat for SRH?
With SRH already having a solid opening pair in Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, Kishan is likely to take up the No. 3 role. Though he is more comfortable as an opener, adapting to a middle-order role could be key to his IPL success this season.
Ignored Despite a Record-Breaking ODI Double Century?
Despite smashing a historic 210 off 131 balls against Bangladesh in December 2022, Kishan was overlooked for the Indian squad, with Shubman Gill preferred as the opener. Since then, he has struggled to break into the national team across formats.
In the wicketkeeper-batter race, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Sanju Samson have been prioritized over him. His exclusion from the BCCI central contract last year further hinted at his falling out of favor.
Cricket Experts Believe IPL 2025 is His Best Chance for a Comeback
Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has emphasized that IPL 2025 could be Kishan’s golden opportunity to reclaim his lost place in the Indian team.
What’s Next for Ishan Kishan?
With IPL 2025 around the corner, all eyes will be on Ishan Kishan’s performances in the league. If he delivers consistently, he could force the selectors to reconsider him for the Indian squad in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
