KTM appears set to expand its adventure motorcycle portfolio in India with the arrival of the 390 Adventure R, a more hardcore, off-road-focused version of the existing 390 Adventure. While the company hasn’t announced an official launch date yet, industry reports suggest the bike could debut around January next year, with bookings opening shortly after and deliveries expected in early 2026.
Here’s a clear look at what the upcoming KTM 390 Adventure R brings to the table.

Familiar engine, tougher setup
Powering the 390 Adventure R is the same 398.6cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine seen on the standard model. It produces 45 bhp at 8,500 rpm and 39 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm, paired with a six-speed gearbox. The motor is known for its strong mid-range and highway-friendly performance, and KTM is expected to retain the same tuning for the R variant.
Suspension and ground clearance get a big boost
Where the Adventure R really separates itself is in its off-road hardware. The bike gets long-travel suspension with 230 mm of travel at both ends, courtesy of WP Apex components. This is a noticeable upgrade over the standard Adventure.
Ground clearance also jumps to 272 mm, compared to 237 mm on the Adventure S. As a result, seat height rises to 870 mm, making it significantly taller than the standard bike’s 830 mm setup. This clearly signals KTM’s intent to position the R as a serious trail-capable machine rather than just a touring ADV.
Bigger wheels, lighter body
The international-spec 390 Adventure R comes with a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheel setup, wrapped in Mitas Enduro Trail E07+ tyres. This replaces the 21/17-inch combination on the standard version and should offer better stability and grip on loose terrain.
Despite the added off-road equipment, the R remains relatively light, with a kerb weight of 176 kg—around 6 kg lighter than the regular 390 Adventure. Fuel tank capacity stands at 14 litres, which should be adequate for long-distance touring and trail rides.

Expected price and rivals
Official pricing is still under wraps, but the KTM 390 Adventure R is expected to be priced between ₹3.80 lakh and ₹4.20 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will sit alongside the 390 Adventure (₹3.95 lakh) and the more affordable 390 Adventure X (₹3.26 lakh) in KTM’s Indian lineup.
With its stronger off-road focus, the Adventure R will likely appeal to riders who want a lightweight, performance-oriented ADV that can handle serious trails without sacrificing road performance.
