Mahindra’s upcoming Vision S SUV is steadily moving closer to production, and the latest spy images reveal some important details from inside the cabin. Spotted testing in near-production form, the Vision S shows premium interior touches, a large panoramic sunroof, and strong signs of a diesel-automatic setup—something still rare in the sub-4-metre SUV space.

The Vision S is part of Mahindra’s broader push to refresh its compact SUV lineup, with a focus on rugged design, everyday usability, and feature-rich interiors.

    Rugged Design, Compact Footprint

Even under heavy camouflage, the Vision S stands out with its upright stance and boxy proportions. Flat body panels, squared-off edges, and a tall silhouette give it a tough, SUV-first look—clearly inspired by Mahindra’s larger off-roaders. At the same time, the compact dimensions suggest it’s being positioned for urban buyers who want a rugged feel without the bulk.

    Diesel Automatic All but Confirmed

One of the biggest takeaways from the latest spy shots is the confirmation of a diesel powertrain. The visible AdBlue filler cap points to a BS6 Phase-2 compliant diesel engine. Inside, the presence of an automatic gear selector confirms that Mahindra is testing a diesel-automatic combination.

In the sub-4m segment, this setup is still uncommon, and if launched, it could give the Vision S a clear advantage over rivals that largely rely on petrol or diesel-manual options.

Interior: Practical, Premium Where It Matters

The test vehicle appears to be a mid-spec variant. This is evident from halogen turn indicators, fabric seat upholstery, and Mahindra’s standard steering wheel rather than the illuminated-logo unit seen on higher trims. Still, the overall cabin design stays close to the Vision S concept showcased last year.

The dashboard layout, air vent design, and general architecture look production-ready. Physical buttons for infotainment and climate control have been retained, which should appeal to buyers who prefer straightforward usability over fully touch-based controls.

Panoramic Sunroof and Rear Seat Comfort

A standout feature inside the cabin is the panoramic sunroof, which extends almost to the rear headrests. This is a big deal in this segment and adds a clear premium touch.

Rear seat passengers get adjustable headrests for all three occupants along with a 60:40 split-folding bench. These features point to a focus on comfort and flexibility, especially for family buyers.

    Expected Engine Options

Along with the diesel automatic, the Vision S is expected to offer petrol variants as well. These could include Mahindra’s 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, similar to the unit used in the XUV 3XO. A 1.5-litre diesel engine—likely related to the one seen in the Thar—could also be part of the lineup, depending on the variant.

With testing now in an advanced stage, more details on features, variants, and launch timelines are expected in the coming months.
