Developed in collaboration with the Bengaluru Traffic Police, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and Arcadis, these new features combine AI, live data, and mobility tech to help drivers plan better, save time, and reduce unnecessary costs.

“These innovations will not only save time and money but also build a safer and more connected India,” said Rakesh Verma, Co-Founder and Managing Director of MapmyIndia.

Live Traffic Signal Timers Go Real-Time

If you’ve ever been stuck at a red light wondering how long you’ll be waiting—Mappls now has the answer.

In its pilot phase with the Bengaluru Traffic Police, over 125 smart signals have been integrated into the Mappls app. Drivers can now see live signal countdowns up to 500 meters in advance, showing exactly how long each light—red, amber, or green—will last.

This isn’t just a cool feature; it’s a move toward smarter traffic management

“By showing live signal timers, commuters can plan better and improve road discipline,” said Karthik Reddy (IPS), Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Bengaluru.

The project will soon expand to more Indian cities, marking a major step in India’s smart city transformation.

Save on Tolls Before You Hit the Road

Another standout update is the NHAI Annual Toll Pass Savings integration. The feature lets users calculate potential toll savings before their journey even begins.

In partnership with the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), Mappls now helps users see exactly how much they’ll save by opting for annual toll passes—something long overdue in India’s highway travel scene.

“This makes highway travel more transparent and cost-effective,” said A.R. Chitranshi, COO of IHMCL.

The app also displays exact kilometres travelled on toll roads, giving users full clarity on where and how toll fees are applied—ideal for budgeting road trips and daily travel alike.

A Smarter, Safer Way to Drive

Mappls’ latest update isn’t just about convenience—it’s about building responsible, data-driven road habits. By merging real-time information, AI, and government partnerships, the platform is setting a new standard for intelligent mobility in India.

From live signals that cut uncertainty to toll insights that save cash, Mappls’ innovations show how Indian tech is leading the charge in homegrown navigation excellence.
