Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas posted on X(formerly Twitter) that the Government had reduced petrol diesel price by ₹ 2 per liter starting today. The revised price of Petrol and Diesel will be effective from March 15, 6 am. The announcement comes just before the upcoming general election.
New Petrol Diesel Price
The petrol price after cut down will be sold at ₹94.72 per litre in the national capital Delhi, against the old price of ₹96.72. In other metro cities, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata, the fuel will be sold for ₹104.21, ₹100.75, and ₹103.94, respectively. This will start from Friday with a cut of ₹2.10, ₹1.88, and ₹2.09 per liter, respectively. The current prices stand at ₹106.31, ₹102.63, and ₹106.03 per liter, respectively.
The diesel price chart also shared by the ministry in its tweet showed that it would be sold at ₹87.62, ₹90.76, ₹92.15, ₹92.34 per liter, respectively, in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai, with a reduction of ₹2,₹2, ₹2.12, and ₹1.9 per liter respectively.
In the union territory, Andaman & Nicobar, we always see the lowest price of fuel. This time petrol price is Rs 82.42 per liter and Rs 84.10 per liter for diesel. On the other hand, the highest fuel cost is in Andhra Pradesh. It costs Rs 109.99 per liter for petrol and Rs 97.75 per liter for diesel.
The petroleum ministry said that reducing diesel and petrol prices would boost consumer spending. It would also reduce operating costs for over six crore cars, 58 lakh heavy goods vehicles, and 27 crore two-wheelers.
He also said the reduced petrol and diesel prices would benefit the citizens in many ways. This includes increasing their disposable income, boosting the travel and tourism industries. He adds it will control inflation, and reduce the outgo on pump sets and tractor operations for farmers.
P Chidambaram Reaction on price cut
On Thursday, Congress leader P Chidambaram reacted to the BJP government’s decision to slash petrol and diesel prices by ₹2/liter. He says that the same thing had happened before BJP increased the LPG price and reduced it before elections.
Chidambaram wrote on X: I said to media last week that diesel and petrol prices would be reduced. It was done today.” He further said: BJP government will say that prices would not increase after election if they came into power again.
