The Gravite will be the first of three new models Nissan plans to introduce in India over the next two years, as it looks to rebuild volumes and relevance in one of the world’s most competitive auto markets.

A new compact MPV aimed at Indian families

Positioned in the high-volume compact MPV segment, the Nissan Gravite has been developed specifically with Indian customers in mind. Nissan says the focus is on space efficiency, modular seating and everyday practicality, making it suitable for both city use and long family trips.

The company adds that the Gravite reflects the diverse mobility needs of India’s 1.4 billion population, targeting buyers who want flexibility and space without moving to a larger, more expensive vehicle.

    What’s behind the name ‘Gravite’?

According to Nissan, the name Gravite is inspired by the word gravity, symbolising balance, stability and strong attraction. The brand says it represents a family-oriented MPV that brings comfort, flexibility and connectivity together in a single package.

Nissan also notes that the name connects with India’s cultural diversity and strong family values, which have shaped the MPV’s overall philosophy.

Design: Familiar platform, distinct Nissan look

The Nissan Gravite is based on the CMF-A+ platform, which also underpins the Renault Triber. Despite sharing its underpinnings, Nissan says the Gravite will have a clearly differentiated identity.

Key design highlights include Nissan’s signature C-shaped grille, new LED DRLs, redesigned bumpers, unique alloy wheels, fresh colour options and revised exterior detailing. The company also claims the Gravite will be the only model in its segment to feature distinctive hood branding and unique rear-door badging. At the rear, the MPV carries Nissan’s C-shaped interlock design theme seen on global models.

Interior: Space and flexibility take priority

While detailed cabin specifications are still under wraps, Nissan has confirmed that the Gravite will prioritise class-leading modularity. Expect highly flexible seating layouts that allow easy switching between passenger and cargo configurations.

Smart storage solutions and efficient use of space are expected to be key highlights, positioning the Gravite as a practical choice for daily commuting as well as long-distance family travel.

Part of Nissan’s broader India roadmap

The Gravite was first announced in July 2024 as part of Nissan’s long-term India product plan. After its launch, Nissan plans to introduce the Nissan Tekton in mid-2026, followed by a new seven-seater C-segment SUV in early 2027.

Together, these three models will form the backbone of Nissan’s comeback strategy in India.

    Dealer expansion and local manufacturing

Alongside new products, Nissan is also expanding its dealer network, especially across Tier I and Tier II cities, to improve customer reach and ownership experience. The brand is building on the success of the Nissan Magnite, which is now exported to over 65 global markets.

The Nissan Gravite will be manufactured locally at the Renault-Nissan Alliance plant in Chennai, underlining the company’s commitment to India as both a production and export hub.

With its official unveiling set for January 21, the Gravite will offer a clearer picture of Nissan’s next phase in India and its renewed focus on the compact MPV space.
