Imagine getting high-speed internet anywhere in India—no towers, no cables—just a small dish and unlimited data for ₹840 a month. Sounds wild? Elon Musk’s Starlink might just make it real, and it’s giving big telcos like Airtel, Jio, and Vi something to worry about.

Starlink’s India Plan: Internet From the Sky
Elon Musk’s satellite internet company, Starlink, is gearing up to enter the Indian market with a bang. While nothing is official yet, reports suggest that Starlink could offer unlimited satellite internet for as low as $10 (around ₹840) per month. That’s insanely cheap—especially for rural and remote areas where regular broadband is still a dream.

But Starlink isn’t alone. Other major players like Bharti Group-backed Eutelsat OneWeb, Reliance Jio and SES’s joint venture, and Globalstar are also preparing to launch satellite internet services in India.

    Targeting 10 Million Users Fast
According to a report in The Economic Times, these companies are aiming big—targeting around 10 million users quickly. The idea is simple: keep the price low at first to attract more people, even if initial costs (like licenses and satellite spectrum) are high.

Ashwinder Sethi, partner at global tech consultancy Analysys Mason, says that a $10 monthly plan could hit the sweet spot for Indian users and help companies recover their investments faster.

The Catch? Hardware Could Be Pricey
While data plans might be cheap, Starlink’s hardware isn’t. Globally, their kits range from $250 to $380 (₹21,000 to ₹32,000 approx.). That might be a hurdle for some Indian users unless there’s a subsidy or EMI option.

Still, compared to the cost of building fiber or mobile networks in remote areas, satellite internet could be a game-changer.

Regulatory Status: Who’s Cleared for Takeoff?
Eutelsat OneWeb and Jio-SES have already received regulatory approval to begin services in India. Starlink, meanwhile, has a Letter of Intent from the telecom department and is waiting for final clearance from India’s space regulator.

Once approvals are in place, we could see these services launching in rural villages, hilly regions, and remote areas, where traditional broadband hasn’t reached.

Why This Matters: No Towers, No Cables—Just Fast Internet
Satellite internet doesn’t need fiber cables or mobile towers. It just needs a receiver on the ground, which makes it perfect for places where laying infrastructure is tough or expensive.

For millions of Indians living in underserved areas, this could be their first real taste of fast, reliable internet.

    Bottom Line
If Starlink delivers on the promise of ₹840/month unlimited satellite internet, it could completely disrupt the market—and not just for users, but for telcos too. Airtel, Jio, and Vi may soon face serious competition, not from each other—but from the sky.
