Nexon EV leads Tata’s electric push

A large chunk of Tata’s EV success comes from the Tata Nexon EV, which recently became the first electric car in India to cross 1 lakh cumulative sales. Since its launch, the Nexon EV has played a key role in making electric cars mainstream, thanks to its familiar SUV design, improving range figures, and expanding charging ecosystem.

Models like the Tiago EV and Tigor EV have also helped Tata reach buyers looking for more affordable electric options, especially in urban markets.

India’s EV market is still warming up

While overall EV adoption in India is growing steadily, electric cars still make up a small share of total passenger vehicle sales. That’s what makes Tata’s 2.5 lakh sales figure notable — it reflects both early mover advantage and a strong understanding of what Indian buyers want from EVs: usable range, reasonable pricing, and trust in after-sales support.

Three new Tata EVs confirmed for 2026

Looking ahead, Tata Motors has confirmed that it plans to launch five new electric cars by FY2030, with three key models arriving in 2026.

Here’s what’s coming:

Tata Sierra EV

The iconic Sierra nameplate is making a comeback as the Tata Sierra EV. Expected to sit above the Nexon EV, the Sierra EV will likely focus on premium interiors, modern tech, and a longer driving range.

Updated Punch EV

The Tata Punch EV is set to receive an update and relaunch in 2026. With its compact size and SUV-like stance, the Punch EV is expected to target city buyers and first-time EV owners.

Tata Avinya

Perhaps the most ambitious of the lot, Tata Avinya represents Tata’s future-facing EV philosophy. Based on a new dedicated electric platform, Avinya is expected to showcase next-gen design, advanced connectivity, and a strong focus on sustainability.

Big year ahead for Tata’s EV roadmap

With strong sales momentum and a clear pipeline of new products, Tata Motors is positioning itself well for the next phase of India’s EV transition. As charging infrastructure improves and buyer confidence grows, the company’s early dominance could give it a long-term edge.

For Indian car buyers, the message is simple: the EV options are about to get a lot more interesting.
