New 1.5L Hyperion Petrol Engine
Both SUVs are powered by Tata’s new 1.5-litre HYPERION Turbo-GDi petrol engine. It produces 168 bhp and 280 Nm of torque, which is notably higher than its output in the Sierra SUV. Buyers can choose between a 6-speed manual gearbox or an Aisin-sourced 6-speed torque converter automatic.
Tata claims best-in-segment fuel efficiency for the new petrol powertrain, aimed squarely at buyers looking for refinement and performance without stepping into diesel territory.
Features and Cabin Experience
Feature-wise, the petrol versions mirror their diesel siblings. Highlights include a 14.5-inch Samsung Neo QLED infotainment screen, Dolby Atmos audio with a 10-speaker JBL system, dual dash cam with DVR, panoramic sunroof, ventilated and powered front seats, ambient lighting, and Tata’s Boss Mode for rear-seat comfort.
The Harrier petrol introduces a new Nitro Crimson exterior shade, paired with an Oyster White and Titan Brown dual-tone cabin. The Safari petrol stands out with 19-inch alloy wheels and a Carnelian Red and Black interior theme.
Safety and Competition
Both the Harrier and Safari petrol variants have secured a 5-star rating from Bharat NCAP, reinforcing Tata’s safety-first positioning across powertrains.

In the market, the Harrier petrol will go head-to-head with rivals like the MG Hector petrol, while the Safari petrol targets buyers considering three-row SUVs with premium features and strong safety credentials.
What This Launch Means
With petrol options now on offer, Tata is clearly aiming to widen the appeal of the Harrier and Safari, especially in urban markets where petrol SUVs still dominate. For buyers who wanted Tata’s flagship SUVs without going diesel, this launch finally ticks that box.
