The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has rolled out a new Aadhaar mobile app for Android and iOS, giving users a faster and more secure way to carry and verify their identity digitally. The app is currently available in early access, allowing residents to try its features before the full public release.
UIDAI says the new app puts “control, portability, and privacy directly” in the hands of Aadhaar holders, making it easier to authenticate details without carrying a physical card everywhere.

What Makes the New Aadhaar App Different?
The updated Aadhaar app is designed for a more seamless verification experience. Whether you’re completing banking KYC, applying for a driving licence, passport, or college admission, the app lets you share Aadhaar details digitally in a secure manner. It aims to replace physical photocopies and reduce paperwork altogether.
In a post on X, UIDAI encouraged residents to download the app and experience paperless Aadhaar authentication for everyday needs.
Key Features of the UIDAI Aadhaar App
Here’s what users can do with the new Aadhaar app:
✔ Digital Aadhaar Sharing without physical documents
✔ Share Aadhaar using QR codes or verifiable digital credentials
✔ Aadhaar number remains masked for privacy
✔ Add up to five Aadhaar profiles on one device (ideal for parents managing children’s Aadhaar)
✔ Biometric lock/unlock to secure identity data
✔ Full control over what data is shared and with whom
Once biometrics are locked, the data remains secure until manually unlocked by the user.
How to Download and Set Up the New Aadhaar App
Follow these steps to get started:
- Download from Google Play Store or Apple App Store
- Choose your preferred language
- Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number
- Verify via OTP sent to your registered mobile number

After setup, users can view Aadhaar details, access a QR code for instant verification, share masked credentials, and manage biometric security.
UIDAI has asked early-access users to share feedback directly through the app or via feedback.app@uidai.net.in to help improve performance before wider rollout.

Why This Matters
Digital Aadhaar usage has surged across services—banking, telecom, housing, travel, healthcare and more. With privacy concerns higher than ever, the new app offers a safer way to prove identity without sharing the complete Aadhaar number everywhere.
The move aligns with India’s ongoing digital identity and e-governance initiatives, making Aadhaar more portable and secure for everyday use.
