Volkswagen and Skoda are gearing up to refresh their popular midsize SUVs in India. The facelifted versions of the Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq are expected to arrive in early 2026, bringing visible design tweaks, richer interiors, and added tech—without touching the core mechanicals that buyers already trust.

What’s staying the same under the hood

Both SUVs will continue on the proven MQB A0 IN architecture, known for its strong safety credentials. Engine options are expected to remain unchanged. That means the familiar 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (115 PS, 178 Nm) and the more powerful 1.5-litre TSI (150 PS, 250 Nm) will carry over. Gearbox choices should include the six-speed manual, six-speed torque converter automatic, and the seven-speed DSG. There’s also chatter in the industry about a possible eight-speed automatic being evaluated for future use, though nothing is confirmed yet.

Exterior updates: subtle but noticeable

Don’t expect a dramatic makeover. The Taigun facelift is likely to get mild revisions to the front grille, bumper design, and headlamp detailing. The signature LED tail lamps with C-shaped elements should stay as they are. New alloy wheel designs and fresh colour options are also expected to join the lineup.

The Kushaq will follow a similar approach. Spy shots point to slightly reworked bumpers, a revised grille, and mild updates to the headlamp sections, while the overall silhouette remains familiar. The idea seems to be refinement rather than reinvention.

Interiors and tech get a bigger upgrade

This is where the facelifts could make a real difference. Volkswagen is expected to introduce a reworked dashboard with improved materials and, importantly, a full suite of Level 2 ADAS features. These may include adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, and rear cross-traffic alert—features buyers in this segment are increasingly looking for.

Skoda, meanwhile, appears focused on boosting the Kushaq’s premium feel. Likely additions include new upholstery, a redesigned centre console, a larger touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, and six airbags as standard across all variants.

Rivals and what’s next

Once launched, the updated Taigun and Kushaq will continue to compete with heavyweights like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Honda Elevate. They’ll also be preparing to take on upcoming models like the new Renault Duster and Nissan Tekna. Adding to the momentum, facelifted versions of the Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia are also expected around the same time.

The bottom line

The 2026 facelifts for the Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq are shaping up to be smart, evolutionary updates. With sharper looks, better interiors, and more safety tech—while keeping the same engines and platform—both SUVs aim to stay competitive in one of India’s toughest segments.
