Volkswagen is getting ready to step up its SUV game in India with the upcoming Tayron R-Line, a premium seven-seater that will sit right at the top of the brand’s local lineup. Positioned above existing VW SUVs, the Tayron aims to blend performance, space and tech, clearly targeting buyers looking for a family SUV with a premium edge.
Powerful petrol engine with AWD
At the heart of the Volkswagen Tayron is a 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine that puts out 201 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. This motor is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and importantly, Volkswagen offers its all-wheel-drive system as standard. The setup promises strong on-road performance along with added confidence on rough or slippery surfaces.

Size, space and practicality
The Tayron is built on a long and wide footprint, measuring 4,770 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2,789 mm. This translates into a roomy three-row cabin designed for proper adult usability. Boot space stands at 345 litres with all rows up, expanding to a massive 850 litres once the third row is folded, making it well-suited for airport runs, long road trips and everyday family duties.
R-Line styling with premium touches
Visually, the Tayron R-Line leans towards a sporty yet clean SUV design. It gets R-Line-specific bumpers, subtle badging and 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels that add to its road presence. Lighting is a big highlight, with HD Matrix LED headlamps, animated cornering functions and illuminated Volkswagen logos at both ends. Variable LED tail-lamp signatures further enhance its premium feel.
Tech-loaded flagship cabin
Inside, the Tayron clearly plays the flagship card. The dashboard is dominated by a large 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system paired with a fully digital driver’s display. Comfort features include three-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof and 30-colour ambient lighting. The front seats come with ergoActive Plus technology, offering ventilation, memory and multi-point massage functions. A Harman Kardon sound system with 11 speakers takes care of in-cabin entertainment.

Safety and driver assistance
On the safety front, the Tayron R-Line comes loaded with Level 2 ADAS, nine airbags including a central airbag, a 360-degree camera and Park Assist Plus. Its five-star Euro NCAP safety rating adds to its global credentials. The SUV has also won the Golden Steering Wheel 2025 award for Best Family Car in Europe, underlining its positioning as a well-rounded family vehicle.
Expected rivals in India
Once launched, the Volkswagen Tayron will go up against established names in the premium SUV space, including the Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster and Jeep Meridian. With local assembly already underway, the Tayron is shaping up to be Volkswagen’s most ambitious SUV launch for India yet.
