Xiaomi has officially lifted the curtain on its next ultra-premium smartphone — the Xiaomi 17 Ultra — confirming a Christmas Day launch in China. Positioned as the crown jewel of the Xiaomi 17 series, the new flagship pushes the brand’s camera-first philosophy further, backed once again by its deepening collaboration with Leica.

While the India launch has not been confirmed yet, early signals suggest the device could make its way to global markets, including India, sometime in early 2026.

Familiar yet refined design language

At first glance, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra sticks to a familiar Ultra-series look. It features a large circular rear camera module, similar to last year’s 15 Ultra, but clearly distinct from the Xiaomi 17 and 17 Pro models that come with a secondary rear display.

A small but eye-catching detail is the circular volume button design — a throwback that subtly nods to older smartphone aesthetics. Xiaomi is offering the phone in Black, White, and a new Starry Sky Green finish that uses mineral particles to create a subtle galaxy-like texture.

Despite packing serious hardware, the phone measures just 8.29mm, making it Xiaomi’s slimmest Ultra device so far.

Leica-powered cameras take centre stage

Cameras remain the headline feature. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra becomes the first smartphone to feature a Leica APO-certified telephoto lens, marking a major milestone in mobile photography.

The setup includes a 200MP periscope telephoto camera, offering focal lengths from 14mm ultra-wide to 100mm telephoto, translating to 4.3x optical zoom. Alongside it is a 50MP primary camera with a large 1-inch OmniVision OV50X sensor, designed to capture more light and detail.

The third rear sensor hasn’t been officially revealed yet, though industry watchers expect it to be an ultra-wide camera. Xiaomi has also hinted at new Leica-tuned imaging features, but details remain under wraps for now.

Launch timeline and India expectations

Xiaomi has confirmed that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will debut in China on December 25, 2025, at 7 pm local time (4:30 pm IST) during the Xiaomi × Leica Imaging Strategic Cooperation Upgrade event.

Globally, the phone is expected to be showcased at Mobile World Congress 2026 in March. While Xiaomi hasn’t said anything official about India yet, past launch patterns suggest an India rollout could follow shortly after the global debut.

Pricing details are also expected to be announced at launch, but given its Ultra positioning, the device is likely to sit firmly in the premium flagship segment.
