Renault is gearing up for a big moment in India. The third-generation Duster has been officially teased, confirming the iconic SUV’s return after a short break. The all-new model is set to make its India-focused debut on January 26, 2026, aligning with Republic Day celebrations and marking a fresh chapter for a nameplate that once reshaped India’s compact SUV market.
Inspired by the Bigster concept, the new Duster looks sharper, tougher, and far more modern than before. For Renault, this launch is also a key part of its long-term ‘International Game Plan 2027’, aimed at regaining lost ground in fast-growing markets like India.
A bold new design for India
The teaser gives a clear hint that this is not a mild update. The 2026 India-spec Duster gets a complete visual overhaul.
Up front, you’ll notice Y-shaped LED DRLs paired with sleek LED headlights, a muscular bonnet, large air intakes, and a bold grille wearing Renault’s updated logo. The side profile looks more upright and rugged, with squared-off wheel arches, chunky cladding, functional roof rails, and dual-tone alloy wheels.

At the rear, the SUV continues the Y-shaped lighting theme with V-inspired LED tail-lamps. A standout India-only touch is the full-width connected LED tail-lamp bar, which isn’t offered on global Dacia or Renault versions. Add a roof spoiler and rear skid plate, and the Duster’s adventurous intent is hard to miss.
Cabin upgrades bring modern tech
Inside, the new Duster moves miles ahead of the outgoing model. The dashboard follows a rugged yet clean layout with Y-shaped AC vents and better materials.
Key highlights include a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, wireless charging, ventilated front seats, and an Arkamys 3D sound system with six speakers. Overall, the cabin feels far more premium while still staying true to the Duster’s tough-SUV character.
Focus on safety and off-road capability
Internationally, the new Duster packs a strong ADAS suite, and similar features are expected for India. This includes automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, traffic sign recognition with speed alerts, lane assist, and rear parking assistance.
For buyers who like to leave the road behind, 4×4 variants will be offered on higher trims. The Terrain Control system comes with five modes—Auto, Snow, Mud/Sand, Off-road, and Eco. There’s also hill-descent control (up to 30 km/h), 217 mm ground clearance, a 31-degree approach angle, and a 36-degree departure angle. Off-road data can be viewed live on the infotainment screen.

Engine options likely for India
Globally, the third-gen Duster is offered with a range of efficient powertrains, including mild-hybrid, bi-fuel, and strong-hybrid options. For India, Renault is expected to keep things simpler at launch.
Petrol-only engines are likely initially, with options such as a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol producing around 156 hp or the 1.2-litre mild-hybrid turbo-petrol. Both manual and automatic gearboxes are expected, with 4×4 reserved for select variants. Hybrid versions could be introduced at a later stage, depending on demand.
Market position and expected price
Once launched, the new Duster will jump straight into India’s crowded midsize SUV segment, taking on established players like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun.
Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but industry estimates suggest a starting range of ₹11–12 lakh (ex-showroom). Renault is expected to price the Duster aggressively, banking on its combination of strong design, real off-road ability, and a familiar brand name to stand out.
After pioneering the compact SUV trend in 2012, the Duster is finally back—with sharper looks, better tech, and a clear focus on Indian buyers.
