3 New Hyundai Cars Spotted Testing in India, Launches Starting April

    Axpertv media google source

Hyundai is gearing up for a busy year in India. Over the next twelve months, the Korean carmaker plans to roll out a mix of budget-friendly and premium models, most of them locally manufactured and priced under ₹15 lakh (ex-showroom). As part of this push, three upcoming Hyundai cars have now been spotted testing on Indian roads — the facelifted Verna, an updated Exter, and a brand-new compact electric SUV.

New Hyundai Verna Facelift Likely by April

Launched in early 2023, the sixth-generation Hyundai Verna is already due for a mid-cycle refresh. Test mules suggest the updated Verna could arrive as early as April, placing it in the second quarter of the year.

The facelift is expected to focus mainly on design. Spy images hint at a sharper, more dynamic front end inspired by Hyundai’s global models like the Sonata. Changes could include a new grille pattern, redesigned headlamps, and a revised bumper that gives the sedan a sportier stance.

Inside the cabin, Hyundai is likely to introduce a redesigned dashboard with a large curved display. This setup may house a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, both running Hyundai’s latest ccNC software with a cleaner, more premium interface. Mechanically, the Verna is expected to continue with the same engine and gearbox options.

    Hyundai Exter Mid-Cycle Update Spotted

The Hyundai Exter, which debuted in mid-2023, is also undergoing testing ahead of a mid-life update. While the headlamps and tail lamps appear unchanged for now, the test cars reveal reworked bumpers and a refreshed grille design.

One visible upgrade is a new set of 15-inch five-spoke alloy wheels. Hyundai is unlikely to offer 16-inch alloys, unlike some rivals, but the updated design should add some visual freshness.

On the inside, the Exter could get a revamped dashboard along with new screens running Android Automotive OS. Reports suggest a 9.9-inch digital driver display and a larger 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Engine options are expected to remain the same, though Hyundai may introduce a 5-speed AMT with the CNG variant, which could appeal to city-focused buyers.

New Hyundai Compact Electric SUV on the Way

The third test vehicle is perhaps the most interesting. Hyundai is working on a compact electric SUV, internally codenamed HE1i. This model is expected to be based on the same platform as the Inster EV sold in Europe.

Design-wise, the upcoming electric SUV is likely to feature a boxy shape, high ground clearance, roof rails, and modern touches such as flush door handles and pixel-style LED lighting elements. The aim appears to be a rugged yet futuristic urban SUV look.

Hyundai is expected to source LFP battery cells from Exide Energy Solutions in India, with a targeted driving range of around 375–400 km on a single charge. The electric SUV could make its public debut at Auto Expo 2027, scheduled between 4 and 9 February 2027.

    What This Means for Buyers

With these three models already testing, Hyundai is clearly preparing to strengthen its lineup across petrol, CNG, and electric segments. From refreshed bestsellers like the Verna and Exter to an all-new compact EV, the next year could be a busy and important phase for Hyundai in India.
