After Priyanka Chopra described Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy as “South Asian” in a post, Pakistani actor Adnan Siddiqui tweeted on Friday, mentioning Priyanka. Priyanka complimented Sharmeen on Star Wars in a post she uploaded. Adnan took to Twitter to chastise Priyanka for her comments, expressing his disdain.
“With due respect, @priyankachopra,” he said in the message. Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy is a Pakistani, in case you forgot. Much like how you display your Indian identity whenever possible when claiming to be a South Asian.”
Sharmeen was recently praised on her Instagram Stories by Priyanka Chopra. “She’s the first person of color and woman to direct a Star Wars film, and she’s South Asian!” she wrote. Sharmeen, this is a historic time. I am really proud of you, my friend. “May the power of the almighty be with you!”
Along with Priyanka, a slew of other celebrities gave Sharmeen their finest wishes for the film. There were also a few Pakistanis among them. “And it all starts in a galaxy far, far away,” author Mehwish Haya explained. “Insane! Exceptionally awesome! MashAllah! Mahira Khan added her congratulations.
Among those who commented on the director’s Instagram post were Wajahat Rauf and Adnan Malik. What a journey you’re about to go on! Adnan replied to Rauf’s “Congratulations” with, “Congratulations!” I’m overjoyed for you! And us.”
Daisy Ridley, who will reprise her role as Rey in the forthcoming appear Wars film, will appear in Sharmeen’s film. The film, which is set to be released in 2019, is scheduled to take place after Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker and will follow Daisy Ridley’s character, Rey has created a new Jedi order.
Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy expressed her enthusiasm for the film in an interview. “I’ve lived my life knowing real-life heroes, those who have overcome the greatest of terrible empires and battled impossible odds, and that to me is the heart of Star Wars…which is why I was drawn to the promise of a new Jedi Order,” she said on Instagram. And why I’m so delighted to be engaged in a Jedi Academy with a formidable Jedi Master.”
Shermeen is a Pakistani-born Canadian. In the meantime, Priyanka is busy promoting her upcoming Sky thriller series Citadel.
