According to State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel, US vehemently opposes China’s attempts to expand territorial claims. The US clarified on “Arunachal Pradesh part of India or China” controversy saying, that it recognizes Arunachal Pradesh as a part of Indian territory. This was amid China’s outcry over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit. The visit was to the frontier state to open the vital Sela Tunnel and reaffirm China’s claim to the area.
State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel made the following statement. He says “We strongly oppose any unilateral attempts to advance territorial claims by incursions or encroachments, military or civilian, across the Line of Actual Control. The United States recognizes Arunachal Pradesh as Indian territory.”
Zangnan is the region’s official name in China. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Wang Wenbin stated that China never recognized the “so-called Arunachal Pradesh illegally set up by India.” This was after PM Modi traveled to Arunachal to open the 13,000-foot tunnel officially.
Wenbin stated that India has no authority to develop the region unilaterally. He adds that to when the China-India boundary dispute is still open.
However, earlier this week, Senior Colonel Zhang Xiaogang, a spokesman for the Chinese Defense Ministry, declared a statement. He says that Beijing “never acknowledges and firmly opposes” the “so-called Arunachal Pradesh illegally established by India.”
He adds the southern region of Xizang, the Chinese name for Tibet, is an intrinsic part of Chinese territory. However, India has refuted China’s assertions and maintained that Arunachal Pradesh is an essential component of the nation.
According to a statement from New Delhi, opposition to Indian leaders’ occasional excursions to Arunachal Pradesh during their tours to other states is illogical. “Moreover, it won’t alter the fact that Arunachal Pradesh was, is, and will always remain an essential and unalienable component of India. They add that this constant stance has been communicated to the Chinese side on multiple occasions.
