After a dispute involving ex-Leicester striker Ahmed Musa, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr team has been barred from signing any new players.
- Nassr has been barred from enrolling players this summer.
- Leicester did not get Musa add-ons.
- Ronaldo and Marcelo Brozovic have joined Nassr.
WHAT OCCURED? According to the Daily Mirror, Al-Nassr has been barred from adding any new players to their team this summer. The Saudi club refused to pay add-ons from a deal for Musa, who joined the club for £14 million ($18 million) in 2018.
THE BIGGER PICTURE: Musa was released by Al-Nassr after winning the league with them. FIFA has now concluded that the club failed to pay £390,000 in performance-related add-ons to Leicester. They were told in 2021 that if they did not pay up, they would face a registration suspension, and it is now being claimed that they have been barred from recruiting players to their team.
AND WHAT’S MORE: FIFA’s judgment said that the restriction may continue for three consecutive transfer windows, but the Public Investment Fund (PIF) has stated that they are willing to pay the price to overturn the embargo. Al-Nassr has signed Brozovic from Inter Milan in their most high-profile signing of the season. Meanwhile, Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr in January and scored 14 goals in his first 16 league games for the club, but he was unable to lead them to the title.
