After a large number of visitors began to arrive in the state to celebrate Christmas and New Year, roads linking key tourist attractions in Himachal Pradesh are experiencing significant traffic congestion. The police in the Lahaul and Spiti area used drone surveillance to monitor the traffic condition in the region, and the video footage shows vehicle tracks clogging the roadways, leaving little room for parking facilities.
The influx of automobiles ahead of the holiday season has also created a difficult law and order scenario in the region. The Himachal Pradesh Police issued a challan on Monday for allegedly driving an SUV in Lahaul and Spiti’s Chandra River.

Several others engaged in unsafe driving stunts in the midst of the traffic jam, generating a nuisance. On social media, a video of a man driving his automobile with the doors open went viral. The driver was spotted hanging perilously from one of the doors. The Kullu police department took notice of the footage and levied a $3,500 fine.
The Manali-Rohtang highway and routes leading to the Atal Tunnel were clogged with automobiles, producing a traffic bottleneck. With little public space and parking facilities, the sheer amount of automobiles exacerbated the problem. Local governments are battling to handle the influx of heavy traffic during peak hours.
