The income tax officials inspected at least 50 business and academic locations associated with S Jagathrakshakan, a former Union minister and prominent DMK MP, beginning Thursday morning. The department also searched forty other Saveetha Group locations.
As the searches continued, M K Stalin stated, “This deliberate persecution of opposition leaders is an assault on democracy.”
‘BJP is afraid of opposition unity.’
In a tweet, CM Stalin stated that the arrest of Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh in Delhi and the searches of Jagathrakshakan’s house were clear examples of the exploitation of independent investigating bodies against INDIA bloc leaders. “The BJP is clearly concerned about the growing unity of opposition parties.” It’s time they put an end to this witch hunt and focus on the genuine issues.” Stalin stated. The department did not reveal the purpose for the searches, but sources informed TOI that they would resume on Friday.
They stated that the materials collected on Thursday are being examined. Income tax officials arrived in approximately 50 vehicles and raided Jagathrakshakan’s Adyar apartment, offices in T Nagar and Velachery, The Accord Hotel, Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital in Pallikaranai, and the Accord distillery near Kancheepuram.
