India begin new chapter after World Cup glory
Led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, India have named a strong 15-member squad. Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and all-rounder Deepti Sharma, who was Player of the Series in the World Cup, are set to feature as well.
The series also gives fans a glimpse of India’s next generation. Head coach Amol Mazumdar has handed maiden call-ups to 19-year-old wicketkeeper-batter G Kamalini and left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma, underlining the team management’s focus on building depth ahead of a busy international calendar.
Sri Lanka, captained by Chamari Athapaththu, will be keen to test themselves against a confident Indian unit. Athapaththu’s all-round presence remains central to Sri Lanka’s plans, especially in challenging away conditions.
Match venue and conditions
The first two matches of the series will be played at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, before the action shifts to Thiruvananthapuram for the remaining three games. Visakhapatnam traditionally offers good batting conditions under lights, making the 7 PM start ideal for an entertaining T20 contest.
