India’s telecom battle just got hotter, and Jio is still crushing it. Meanwhile, BSNL and Vi are stuck in a downward spiral—losing users faster than ever. The latest TRAI report for April 2025 spills all the tea. Let’s break it down.
Jio’s Unstoppable Growth: 26 Lakh New Users in Just One Month!
Reliance Jio isn’t just winning; it’s dominating. According to TRAI’s April 2025 report, Jio added a whopping 26.4 lakh new subscribers, pushing its total user base to 47.24 crore. That’s almost half of India’s mobile users sticking with Jio—no surprise, given their aggressive data plans and 5G push.
Meanwhile, Airtel’s holding steady in second place, adding 1.7 lakh users (now at 38.99 crore). But here’s the real shocker…
BSNL & Vi in Free Fall: Losing Users by the Lakhs
While Jio and Airtel celebrate, BSNL and Vi are in big trouble:
- BSNL lost 1.55 lakh users—now down to 9.09 crore.
- Vi (Vodafone Idea) got hit the hardest, losing 6.47 lakh users in a single month! Their total count? Just 20.47 crore, and shrinking fast.
What’s going on? Poor network coverage, delayed 5G rollouts, and better rivals seem to be killing these once-giant telcos.

Porting Frenzy: 1.34 Crore Users Switched Networks
Here’s the kicker—13.4 million users requested Mobile Number Portability (MNP) in April alone. That’s a massive shuffle, and guess where most are headed? Jio and Airtel.
Broadband Blues: User Count Dips Too
Even broadband took a hit—94.31 crore users vs. 94.41 crore in March. A small drop (-0.11%), but still a red flag.

The Bottom Line: Jio Rules, Others Struggle
Jio’s cheap data + 5G combo keeps pulling users, while Airtel’s holding its ground. But BSNL and Vi? Unless they fix their networks fast, they might just fade away.
What’s next? Will Vi bounce back? Can BSNL survive? Or is Jio set to own the market? Stay tuned—we’ll keep you updated.
