Google is honoring the life and achievements of Indian scientist Kamala Sohonie, the first woman accepted to India’s flagship university, IISc.

Kamala Sohonie, a scientist, was the first woman in India to be admitted to the famous Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc), which is regarded as the greatest institute in the country. Sohonie was also the first Indian woman to receive a Ph.D. in a scientific discipline.

Google commented, “Today’s Doodle celebrates Indian biochemist Kamala Sohonie, she was the first Indian woman to get a Ph. D in a scientific discipline, establishing the way for women to pursue degrees in STEM.”
Dr. Kamala Sohonie became an inspiration for all women in India and made significant strides toward reducing gender prejudice in the area of science. She was admitted to IISc Bangalore, but the officials questioned her ability because she was a woman.
Despite the difficult circumstances, she overcame gender bias and went on to become one of the greatest students at IISc, opening the path for more women to follow in her footsteps. She later began investigating how various proteins found in beans may give sustenance to youngsters.
Dr. Kamala Sohonie’s seminal contribution was the creation of a cheap diet and nutrition supplement manufactured from palm nectar. This drink was known as Neera, and it was high in Vitamin C and other nutrients, nourishing pregnant women and starving children.
