In a recent interview, Jaya opened up about her days playing the villainous Payal Parikh back in 2000. She revealed that she was paid only 1000 rupees a day, and shockingly, her pay didn’t increase for seven years! She also talked about the discrimination in pay between actors back then — some got raises, while others just stayed stuck on a low salary.

Ekta Kapoor’s show transformed lives, but not everyone got the same deal
Jaya admitted that many actors who started on the show did eventually get better pay and went on to become big stars. But for some, the journey wasn’t that easy. Even Smriti Irani once shared how the show changed the lives of over a hundred struggling artists, many of whom didn’t even have a home before the show’s launch. Still, equal pay wasn’t a given in those early days.
