Maruti Suzuki Dzire continued its unstoppable run in the Indian sedan market in October 2025, securing the No. 1 spot by a massive margin. Despite the SUV wave dominating the auto space, October proved that sedans still have a solid fanbase in India, with several models posting impressive year-on-year growth.
The month brought some sharp shifts in rankings and sales, with a few long-time names slipping while compact sedans enjoyed a festive season boost.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire Leads With Record Numbers
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire didn’t just lead—it completely blew past every other sedan in the country. The updated-generation model, now safer with a 5-star crash rating and packed with more tech, sold 20,791 units, a stunning 64% jump from 12,698 units in October 2024.
Its strong mileage, reliability, and cab-market dominance continue to keep it far ahead of everyone else.
Hyundai Aura Claims Second, Amaze Shines at No. 3
In second place, the Hyundai Aura recorded 5,815 units, marking a healthy 21% rise from 4,805 units a year ago.
Right behind was the Honda Amaze, which delivered 3,630 units, posting a solid 52% YoY growth—a boost linked to festive demand and reduced prices after GST 2.0 adjustments.
Virtus vs Slavia: A Close Mid-Size Rivalry
The mid-size game stayed tight between Volkswagen and Skoda:
| Rank | Model | Oct 2025 | Oct 2024 | YoY Growth |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 | Volkswagen Virtus | 2,453 | 2,351 | 4% |
| 5 | Skoda Slavia | 1,648 | 1,637 | 1% |
Both sedans saw marginal growth, continuing to attract enthusiasts who prefer turbo-petrol performance over compact mileage-focused options.
Tata Tigor Climbs, Verna & City Decline
Tata’s only sedan, the Tigor, surprised with 1,196 units, up 29% YoY from 926 units. It remains one of the top picks for affordable EV and CNG buyers.
However, things did not look as bright for two once-iconic nameplates:
| Model | Oct 2025 | Oct 2024 | YoY Fall |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hyundai Verna | 824 | 1,272 | -35% |
| Honda City | 578 | 1,004 | -42% |
Both models suffered as buyers continued shifting toward similarly priced compact and mid-size SUVs.
Toyota Camry Grows, Ciaz Drops to Zero
The premium hybrid Toyota Camry saw a strong 57% increase, reaching 276 units versus 176 units last year—proof that India’s interest in hybrid tech is only rising.
At the bottom, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz recorded zero units in October 2025, down from 659 units last year, signaling an uncertain future for the sedan.

Sedans Still Have Loyal Buyers in India
Even with the SUV takeover, October 2025 shows that sedans aren’t going anywhere. The segment may be smaller, but it continues offering:
Better driving comfort
Lower maintenance costs
Strong mileage options
Expanding hybrid and CNG choices
With several facelifts due in 2026, including the next-gen Honda City and possible Aura successor, the competition is expected to heat up further.
