With the Women’s Premier League just days away, Mumbai Indians have kicked off their title defence in style by unveiling their new jersey for WPL 2026. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side dropped the official reveal video on social media ahead of the season opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the DY Patil Stadium.
While the kit launch created early buzz, fans were quick to notice one detail missing — the championship stars.
A familiar look with a fresh golden touch
The new Mumbai Indians jersey sticks closely to the winning template from last season. The familiar blue base remains, but this time, MI have added subtle gold accents, giving the kit a sharper, premium finish. This is the same jersey design lineage in which MI defeated Delhi Capitals to lift the WPL 2025 title.

The reveal video featured several MI players and highlighted the design details, keeping changes minimal rather than going for a complete overhaul.
‘City of Pulse. City of Play.’: What the jersey represents
Mumbai Indians also released an official statement explaining the concept behind the new kit. According to the franchise, the jersey draws inspiration from the spirit and rhythm of Mumbai itself.
“Inspired by Mumbai’s heartbeat, this jersey channels the city’s contrast and chaos — monsoon blues, midnight towers, crashing waves, and the non-stop rhythm that lives in every street,” MI said.
The design includes a “Wicket Pulse” print symbolising movement — from trains and tides to the everyday rush of city life. Coral shades reflect softer elements like sunrise at Marine Drive and terracotta rooftops, while gold arcs across the silhouette are meant to mirror sunlight on the Arabian Sea and Mumbai’s iconic Art Deco architecture.
Jersey now on sale, but with a catch
The newly launched Mumbai Indians jersey is already available on the franchise’s official store. Alongside the player version, MI have also rolled out a fan edition priced at ₹999, which is reportedly selling fast.
However, fans browsing the site have pointed out that the fan edition still resembles the 2025 jersey and does not showcase the latest artwork seen in the launch video.
Fans unhappy over missing championship stars
The biggest talking point, though, has been the absence of stars above the MI logo. Traditionally, teams add a star for each title win — something fans were expecting after Mumbai Indians’ two WPL triumphs.
MI won the inaugural WPL season and reclaimed the trophy again in 2025, both times beating Delhi Capitals in the final. The lack of stars in the 2026 jersey left many supporters disappointed, with some calling it a missed opportunity to showcase the team’s legacy.

A section of fans also criticised the design for playing it too safe, arguing that the changes felt minimal and too similar to last season’s kit.
Despite the mixed reactions, the jersey reveal video has already gained traction online, clocking thousands of views and engagements within hours of release.
